About the artist
David Mitchell, born 10 January 1940 in Wellington; died 21 June 2011 in Sydney. New Zealand poet, teacher and cricketer; lived in Spain and France 1960-65, became a leading performance poet with "Pipe Dreams in Ponsonby" (1972), held the Katherine Mansfield fellowship at Menton in 1976 and founded Auckland's Poetry Live series in 1980.
