The Industrial Metal / Industrial Rock song "Tin Omen" (Nettwerk # V-15511) mentioned the Kent State shootings. Released by Skinny Puppy, a Canadian group formed in Vancouver in 1982, the song title referenced the Tiananmen Square protest in China, in June 1989, in which military troops and tanks turned on the civilians demonstrators, resulting in hundreds of deaths, including many students. Skinny Puppy got this record out in November 1989, and used Kent State as a comparison: "Ohio Kent State was nothing so great" - thus seeking to highlight the massive scale of death in the Tiananmen example. The narrator went on to say that the National Guard wanted "away" with "flower power", and wanted to "kill this way of life". Featured on the album Rabies (Nettwerk # W1-93007).
