Annotation — Japanese Songs

This release (Denon Records # CD-98) is actually by a well-known Vietnamese artist, Khánh Ly (also known as カーン・リー in Japanese), born on 6 March 1945, Hà Nội, Vietnam, which included two classic songs, both composed by Trịnh Công Sơn, a prominent Vietnamese songwriter (born 28 February 1939 in Buôn Ma Thuột, Đắk Lắk, Vietnam, died on 1 April 2001, Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam). Although not Japanese Vietnam War song, it's interesting to note its release in the country. The track titles are "雨に消えたあなた" ("Diem xua") and "ユエの子守歌" ("Ca dao me"). "Diem xua" became especially popular in Japan as it was used for the TV drama "サイゴンから来た妻と娘" ("Wife and Daughter From Saigon") based on a book of the same title - in which a Japanese newspaper reporter is working in Saigon during the Vietnam War. He married a Vietnamese woman, and they move to Japan after the fall of Saigon. (1) (2) Released in 1978.
