The soundtrack to John Badham's 1983 Vietnam War film Blue Thunder, about a Vietnam veteran (helicopter pilot) with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), contained the song "Sunrise at Pinkville" (MCA Records # MCA 6122), a reference to My Lai -. The 1997 CD reissue also had the additional track "Pinkville Strafing Run" (Super Tracks Music Group # ARCD 01). In an interview with Randall D. Larson in CinemaScore, # 13/14, 1985, Rubinstein spoke about the soundtrack: John wanted to get away from the whole idea that this is a neurotic guy who has these flashbacks about Vietnam....The thematic material in Blue Thunder is absolutely simple. The entire score, as a matter of fact, is based on just two pieces of music...it's just two notes, really, it goes BUH-BUH-baaa, Duh Duh-da-da-daaa. What is complicated is the moment to moment working out of rhythms and tempos and sounds". (1)
