Annotation — North Vietnamese Songs
Another collection of Vietnamese songs (Paredon Records # PAR01009), with such titles as "We Will Liberate the South", "Song of the Liberation Soldiers" and "My Native Land". So, they reflect a degree of patriotism for their homeland, while showing their determination to re-gain control of the country from the foreign invaders. As above, most of these fit into the Nhạc đỏ ("Red Music") genre, taken from Dihavina record label, originally the state label of North Vietnam (Democratic Republic of Vietnam) before reunification in 1975. Musically, these are highly orchestrated arrangement, and like the LP immediately above, have a strong Russian, Chinese influence with regards to revolutionary music. The record is of course aimed at the US market, seeking to display the Vietnamese objective of independence and reunification, and to undermine the US government's portrayal of the Vietnamese struggle - to preserve an independent, non-communist South Vietnam.
