Annotation — Latin & Central American, & Caribbean Music
Released in Cuba, much of this record featured the poertry of Félix Pita Rodríguez, born 18 February 1909 in Havana, Cuba, and died in the same city in 1990. He was an active communist, in the 1940s writing for the Noticias de Hoy, the official publication of the Popular Socialist Party, becoming more prominant after the Cuban Revolution in 1959. (1) (2) The poems recited on this LP included: "Relato de una campesina de Viet-Nam" ("Story of a Vietnamese Peasant Woman"), "Su nombre puede ponerse en verso" ("Your name Can Be Put Into Verse"), "Cantata a la escuela de Huong Phuc" ("Cantata to the School of Huong Phuc"). This is mixed in with three songs, the famous "Balada de Ho-Chi-Minh" by Ewan MacColl, "Interprete y guitarra" ("Interpreter and Guitar") by Pablo Milanés - born on 24 February 1943 in Bayamo, Granma, Cuba, a prominent member of the Nueva canción latinoamericana movement. The final song was by Silvio Rodríguez, born on 29 November 1946 in San Antonio de los Baños, Havana, Cuba. He was a member of the Cuban Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC, discussed above. The song was called "La era esta pariendo un corazon" ("The Era Is Giving Birth to a Heart").
