Mike Laure, born 29 September 1939 in El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, died on 19 November 2000, Mexico City, Mexico. He released the song "Prefiero irme a Vietnam" ("I Prefer to Go to Vietnam") (Musart # 45 4631) in the Cumbia mexicana genre - "popularized in Mexico by Luis Carlos Meyer and Carmen Rivero in the 1950s, Cumbia quickly acquired a distinctive sound through the incorporation of Rock & Roll, Mexican popular music and Cuban influences, such as the adoption of electric instruments (guitar, bass guitar, keyboards), brass ensembles, accordion and Cuban timbales, while retaining a beat-driven mood and traditional Colombian features".
