Annotation

Joe Walsh, a singer/songwriter from the US, famous as a guitarist in the 1970s band the Eagles, released the hard rock song "Decades" (Epic Records # 48916) which made a reference to Kent State. The song took a long-term view of war, with the narrator recalling each decade, stretching from the First World War ("we fought the war to end all wars"), on to the political and cultural changes of the 1960s: "and the sixties were unrest, protest". However, he noted the Kent State demonstration as a turning point, that burst the bubble: "the seventies lasted 'til May, and on the hill that day I gave up".
