Artist background
Vinnie Paz, East Coast Hip Hop / Hardcore Hip Hop artist, born on 5 October 1977 in Sicilia, Italy, and soon after moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was member of the group Jedi Mind Tricks. His solo songs referencing the Vietnam War included: "And Your Blood Will Blot Out the Sun" (2012), "You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train" (2012), "God Bless" (2013), "Writings on Disobedience and Democracy" (2016), "Ninety Three" (2016), and "Pray for Sleep"(2018). His group, Jedi Mind Tricks, also released a bunch of Vietnam War-related songs: "I Against I" (2000), "The Wolf" (2003), "And So It Burns" (2004), and "Uncommon Valor: A Vietnam Story" (2006) (with R.A. the Rugged Man).
This album featured the first two solo efforts from Vinnie Paz to reference the Vietnam War. The first was in the song "And Your Blood Will Blot Out the Sun" (Enemy Soil Records # ES-CD-1201) which contained an anti-war protest message, suggesting that people did not need government or orders to carry out a massacre, referencing the My Lai Massacre - the mass murder of between 300-500 civilians in the South Vietnamese area known as "Pinkville", containing the hamlets, known as My Lai 4 and My Khe 4, and throughout the area of Song My, by US forces on 16 March 1968: "murder doesn’t need a lobbyist or an ambassador, ask the survivors of the Mỹ Lai massacre" . The other song, "You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train" , provided an anti-war, anti-government take, featuring a sample from Howard Zinn, a US intellectual and historian, which referenced the Vietnam War.
