Notes

Written in May or early June 1970 in response to the Kent State shootings of 4 May 1970. Sung solo on acoustic guitar during a Steel Mill set at The String Factory, Richmond, Virginia, most likely 19 or 20 June 1970 (exact date unconfirmed); never on a studio album. The only circulating recording is an audio clip of that show posted on YouTube on 10 November 2013. [springsteenlyrics.com]
