Annotation

Hardcore Punk formed in Zürich, Switzerland. Its membership included: Chrigu (lead vocals), Snoopy (guitar, vocals), Kräche (bass, vocals), Pablo (drums, vocals), and Domi (bass). The song "Vietnam" (Resistance Productions # RIP 005) took an anti-war position, using Vietnam as its main reference point, displaying its important in culture. The lyrics contained Cold War imagery: "don't want no Third World War...corpses lying in the street". It also referred to the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan in World War Two: "no Hiroshima again". Also of note was the use of Vietnam War film iconography: "Russian roulette is played for fun". This is a reference to the famous scene in The Deer Hunter (1978), a key symbol of this 'message film', in which Russian roulette is used by Vietcong captors to torture American soldiers. Such torture has never been documented and this contributes to portraying the Vietnamese in a negative way. Students of the Vietnam War would argue that this is clearly not reality. Others may feel that The Deer Hunter is depicting an important message about American involvement in Vietnam – an American soldier puts a gun to his head, pulls the trigger, and kills…
