Annotation

The Animals, led by Eric Burdon, formed in 1962 in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, UK. The song "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place" (Columbia (EMI) # DB 7639) was very popular amongst US forces in Vietnam - as the veteran streetmouse said, it was one of those songs that "expressed emotions, desires, daily activities", as well as being "just a whole lot of fun to listen to". (1) The song frequently played on the American Forces Network radio in Vietnam. (2) Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil actually wrote the song with the industrial, working class North of England in mind. Note this group also released the war-related song Sky Pilot (Part One) / Sky Pilot (Part Two) (1968).
