J.F. Murphy and Free Flowing Salt were an American rock band led by the singer and songwriter J.F. Murphy, whose music blended rock with jazz, country and progressive elements; after this first record the act shortened its name to J.F. Murphy & Salt and continued into the mid-1970s with a 1972 live album for Elektra, 'The Last Illusion' (1973) and 'Urban Renewal' (1975). "Waiting Hymn of the Republic" is the third track of their debut album 'Almost Home', issued on MGM Records SE-4708 in 1970. No biographical documentation for J.F.
