Annotation — Punk Songs
Art Punk / Indie Rock group Half Japanese, from Coldwater, Michigan, USA, which formed in 1974, released the song "Vietnam" (Fifty Skidillion Watts Records # H J 5), in which a soldier was "headed out from Californ-I-A...over there to Vietnam" - the 1A of course being a play on the classification for those "eligible for military service", established in 1971 (under the Military Selective Service Act of 1967). Other common classifications were 1-AO (Conscientious Objector available for non-combatant military service), and 1-O (Conscientious Objector available for alternate community service). (1) The song also referenced the North Vietnamese leader Hồ Chí Minh, and made reference to contemporary conflict in El Salvador.
