Annotation

The song "Trying to Make It Home" (Galico # G-45-102) by Rudy Ludaway - originally released on two Georgian based labels - Galico and Awake Records (# 45-300). It later appeared on the national label United Artists (# UA 50590). Ludaway wrote and produced the track, although the record also said "Bobby Smith Productions". The song is narrated from a soldier in the war, missing his sweetheart back home: "I miss you baby...I can't come home now although I wanna". The soldier said that he will "fight a good fight" in order to make it home. The soldier did not know or care "whose wrong, right" - he was just doing his service.

About the artist

Rudy Ludaway was a southern soul singer with, per Sir Shambling's Deep Soul Heaven, a light tenor and real songwriting ability. His debut "Trying To Make It Home" b/w "What's Wrong Baby" appeared first on two small Georgia labels, Awake (300) and Galico (102), before being licensed to United Artists (50590) in 1969 - Sir Shambling calls it "a southern soul beauty in the grand manner". A later single, "Soulville U.S.A." b/w "Somebody Could Charge You", appeared on Goodie Train (018). The Macon, Georgia entrepreneur Bobby Smith is linked to the Galico release.
