Skip Jackson, born Tommy Brown, from New Jersey, backed by vocal group The Shantons, released the song "Promise That You'll Wait" (Dot-Mar Records # YE 324). The track was covered by Michael Lizzmore in 1972 - Promise That You'll Wait. It is narrated from the soldier's perspective, who has been at the war a while "since my note from Uncle Sam" - so obviously drafted into the conflict. He asked his loved one to "hang on a little bit longer baby", and he looked forward to running to her "the second that I'm home".

Skip Jackson (real name Tommy Brown; died 1982) led the Shantons, a doo-wop/soul vocal group from the Jersey City, New Jersey area, recording for Jay-Mar and Dot-Mar; "Promise That You'll Wait" (Dot-Mar 324/5, 1967) is documented directly by Sir Shambling's Deep Soul Heaven, which calls it "a great group ballad with fine horn support". He later cut "Peace Of Mind" (Capitol, 1972) with Barry Beckett on keys, appeared on the Garry Moore Show billed "The Kid From Boys Town", and recorded for producer Stan Krause under other group names.
