Annotation
The song "Please Wait for Me (My Darling)" (Ovide Records # 232) by the Houston, Texas soul group the Masters of Houston, led by Fred Kibble, and managed by Skipper Lee Frazier, the founder of Ovide Records which released this single in 1968. The song is credited to "Kibble / Hopkins / Bellard". Frazier leased the song out to Capitol, in the hope of shifting more records ("Please Wait for Me (My Darling)" (Capitol Records # 2255). By which time, the group changed their name to Masters of Soul due to a contractual dispute with a previous label. This song provides a representation of the soldier's fear that his loved one back home will abandon him while away fighting. Although the odds of the soldier's survival are "a million to one", the soldier pleas "darling please hold on". Billboard mentioned the song on 8 June 1968 in its soul radio review, saying that "the biggest leftfield happening is "Please Wait for Me" by the Masters of Soul".
