Annotation
"Peace Begins Within" (Whit # W-6908), a short mid-tempo R&B song, made a small reference to the conflict: "boys are dying, Vietnam". The narrator commented that the "folks back home don't give a damn". Powell, born 1941, came from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Starting out as a gospel singer in the 1950s, he switched to a more R&B / funk sound in the 60s, releasing some moderately successful singles, such as C.C. Rider which topped the R&B charts in 1965.
