Annotation
Kicking off with a military marching beat, the country song "Off to Vietnam (In the Green)" (Sims Records # 325) dealt with the draft. Skeeter Bonn (1923-1994), born in Sugarville, Illinois, joined the US Navy during the Second World War. In fact, in the song the narrator receives his draft card, and declares that "in the footsteps of our dads we'll go" - probably a reference to World War Two. The narrator does not care about "right or wrong", but wants to do his duty and carry on "for those who died".

Skeeter Bonn (Junior Lewis Boughan, born 6 April 1923 in Sugarville, Fulton County, Illinois; died 1994) was "the pickin' and singin' boy" of the WLS National Barn Dance, the WLW Midwestern Hayride and the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree, a US Navy veteran (1942-46) who cut around ten RCA Victor singles in the 1950s (key 1954-55 Nashville sessions with Chet Atkins, Bud Isaacs and Tommy Jackson).
