About the artist
Thomas Henry Kizziah was born in Rockwood, Tennessee in 1915 into a travelling medicine-show family that moved to Dickens, Texas (1921) and El Reno, Oklahoma; at 14, in Oklahoma City, he was mentored by Jimmie Rodgers, who gave him a radio spot. After Army service he settled in Oregon and led "Tommy Kizziah and His West Coast Ramblers" from the late 1940s - recording for Pearl, West Coast and 4 Star, sharing Portland-area bills with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins - leaving the band in 1962.
