Annotation — US Combat Perspective Songs
Alice Cooper, a hard rock musician, born in Detroit, Michigan, USA (4 February 1948), and currently based in Phoenix, Arizona. (1) Many people interpreted Cooper's song "Eighteen" (Warner Bros. Records # 7449) as a reference to Vietnam. One could fight at the age of eighteen, but could not vote until they turned twenty-one: "I'm a boy and I'm a man...I gotta get out of this place". A widely debated issue, the Nixon administration eventually enlarged the franchise for the 1972 presidential election to include those eighteen and over. Released on the US charts in 11 November 1970, it reached # 21 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart in on 24 April 1971. (2) Produced by Bob Ezrin and Jack Richardson. Featured on the 1971 album Love It to Death (Straight Records # STS 1065).
