"For home and kin the soldier longs And also an end to the Vietcong How many more must I cut down To be sent back to my home town If I don't reach those trees ahead This hole will serve as my death bed The mud hole I've been lying in The past three days and nights... Whether we have a purpose here, I'm not qualified to know I don't claim to be a genius, I'm just another Joe... Someone comes and reads this note I leave here on this ground Lord I hope he has more luck then I can here and found Alone and lost this platoon...to be tortured by the enemies Who are hardened by their aim"
