Annotation — McGuire's "Eve of Destruction" & Answer Songs
The song "Day Is Done" (20th Century-Fox Records # 640) by obscure artist Phil Terry, no biography known, which is another answer to Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction", as suggested by the title. Narrated from the perspective of a soldier in Vietnam, it criticised protesters and the anti-war movement: "I heard today that people back home are saying I don't belong here", and it contained patriotic sentiment, including referencing the flag, pledging allegiance, and perceived values of the country: "have they forgotten... our pledge of allegiance to the flag".
