About the artist
James Robert Owen 'Bob' Atcher (1914-1993), born in Hardin County, Kentucky, was a country singer and longtime star of Chicago's WLS National Barn Dance who recorded for Columbia, Capitol and Kapp, and served as mayor of Schaumburg, Illinois (1959-75); 'Buck Private's Lament' was first cut in 1947 (unissued) and re-recorded in Nashville in 1965 for release as Columbia 4-43524 (January 1966).
