The love song "Believe in My Baby - Part I & II" (20th Century-Fox Records # 6684) by the soul singer Jesse James (aka James McClelland), from Arkansas, made a minor reference to the Vietnam conflict: "in Vietnam...seems like we are caught in such a deep, deep rut".

About the artist
American deep-soul singer, born James Herbert McClelland on 3 October 1943 in El Dorado, Arkansas (one interview gives Louisiana); moved to the San Francisco Bay Area as a child and began singing in Richmond nightclubs. Early singles on Shirley and Hit featured guitar by Sly Stone; 'Believe in Me Baby' (reissued by 20th Century Fox, 1967) reached #42 R&B / #92 pop, and 'Don't Nobody Want to Get Married Pt. 2' (Zea, 1970) made the R&B Top 20.
