About the artist
Lyle 'Slats' McPheeters was an American country singer and songwriter active from at least the early 1970s to the late 1980s, writing his own material and recording for a succession of small labels: 'The Ballad of Bobby Riggs' on Artco (1973), 'Kentucky Blue' on Boyd Records (1975), 'The Larrimore Hustle (The Pig)' on Hustle Records (1976), 'Colt 45' on Mica MS 103, 'They Rob and Steel in Jesus Name' on Hustle (1981) and the album 'Dixie' on Bluestem Music (1987). A recording of his was later selected for Bear Family Records' compilation 'American Heroes' (1997). The 45 carrying "Battle Field…
