About the artist
Iain MacKintosh (born 20 July 1932 in Glasgow; died 27 August 2006 in Glasgow, aged 74) was a Scottish folk singer, banjo and concertina player known as 'the quiet man of Scottish folk'. He left the family pawnbroking business and turned professional in 1970 after seeing Pete Seeger perform, first with the Islanders and then solo, building a thirty-year career that was especially strong in Germany and Denmark; he was an interpreter rather than a writer. His version of Steve Goodman's 'Ballad of Penny Evans' is track A2 of the LP 'Encore' (Dara MPA 010, 1975), recorded with Mike Whellans and…
