Adios a mi novia

Annotation — Mexican-American / Hispanic Songs

Vietnam-era compilation released on ECO (No. 498), from Mexico City, Mexico and on Falcon (FLP-2014), a label based in McAllen, Texas, USA. It featured several Mexican-American artists, recording songs about soldiers in the Vietnam War era. Such as Freddie Gómez, born in Los Indios, Texas, USA (6 August 1932). He died in Carricitos, Texas, USA on 3 September 2005. On this compilation, he had the songs "El hijo del soldado raso", "Soldado de levita", "El soldado raso". Several of these artist appeared on the Mexican-American LP Porque estamos en Vietnam discussed below, which together with this record, were released by the Mexican-American record-label owner Arnaldo Ramírez, from Texas, USA. Juan Alfredo Perez featured with several songs, including "Adios a mi novia" ("Goodbye to My Girlfriend"), narrated from the soldier's perspective, missing his partner back home: "in case I die in the battle, pray a lot", and if not, "we would get a house between us". Not much is known about Luis Cacho, a Mariachi artist, said to have toured Vietnam on a USO-sponsored trip to entertain troops. (1) He released the song "Adios a mi novia" ("Goodbye to My Girlfriend") (no label, catalogue information, or location, is provided on the record) which is narrated from a soldier's perspective, who asked his girlfriend to "please don't forget me", and he prayed to god that he would not be killed in battle.
