Mother's Son in Viet Nam, A (Wilf Carter) (Starday Records # SLP-389)

Country music. Narrated from soldier's perspective, who missed his wife and family. But strongly backed the objectives of the war. Patriotic, pro-government.

"You asked me why we're fighting in this far distant land
If you were in this jungle then your son would understand
We're fighting for democracy, to keep all people free
Keep the stars and strips flying high in the good old USA
I miss my wife and family, and my dear old mother too
There's thousands here just like me, but we have a job to do
Don't speak of us unkindly, as we've heard some folks have done
I'm just a mother's son fighting here in Vietnam
You asked me why we're fighting to defend some foreign land
If you cherish your freedom then you should all understand
We're fighting to protect you and the old good USA
And now you've heard my story, and to you I'll only say
I miss my wife and family and my dear old mother too
There's thousands here just like me, but we have a job to do
Don't speak of us unkindly, as we've heard some folks have done
I'm just a mother's son fighting here in Vietnam
