Artist background
Lil Wayne, influential Southern Hip Hop / Gangsta Rap artist, born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. on 27 September 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, said to have sold 120m+ records worldwide. He frequently referenced the Vietnam War, as a metaphor for violence, including: "Blood Line" (2002), "Problem Solver" (2006) (with Birdman and DJ Khaled), "Wasted" (2009), "Thinking Bout You" (2015), "Bing James" (2020) (with Jay Rock), and "Wild Dogs" (2020).
This album featured two tracks referencing the Vietnam War. The song "Wild Dogs" (Young Money Entertainment # B0030882-02) used Vietnam as a comparison to violence in the US: "bust up in your home... home sweet homicide... it's war like Vietnam" . The song "Bing James" , featuring Jay Rock (Gangsta Rap artist, born Johnny Reed McKinzie, Jr. on 31 March 1985 in Watts, California, USA) referenced Vietnam, used as a metaphor for flashbacks (usually associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - frequently referenced in post-war 1980s songs about US veterans, often connected in songs to stress, shell shock, flashbacks, nostalgia, and feelings and dreams related to an event: "we from the projects, we got that PTSD like some Vietnam vets" .
