Annotation — Bruce Springsteen Songs

The song "Lost in the Flood" on Springsteen's debut studio album Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. (Columbia Records # KC 31903), which successfully launched his career, was recorded mid-1972, as US involvement in the Vietnam War was winding down. It was released in January 1973, the same month that the Nixon administration signed a peace deal to end the conflict, although Vietnam remained divided into North and South until 1975. The song contained several references to the war and a veteran back in the US, a theme Springsteen would return to throughout his career: "gunner is returnin' home, like a hungry runaway, he walks through town all alone". Springsteen then asked "have you thrown your senses to the war, or did you lose them in the flood?".
